AI cleanup

Polish your text with a provider, learned rules, and reusable profiles.

On this page

AI cleanup runs after speech transcription. It can fix punctuation, apply spelling and style rules, or turn dictated speech into a reusable format such as an email or support ticket.

Connect a text model#

Open Settings → AI cleanup and choose a provider and text model. Supported providers include OpenAI, OpenRouter, Ollama, Groq, OpenCode Go/Zen, and custom OpenAI-compatible endpoints.

Add provider credentials in Settings → API keys. The app stores these keys in your operating system's credential store. Ollama requires a server you manage separately.

For a custom endpoint, choose the API it supports: Chat Completions or Responses. Configure the endpoint and model before enabling cleanup.

Enable and check cleanup#

Enable cleanup in Settings → AI cleanup, then make a short recording. Compare the cleaned result with what you said before using it in a message or document.

A local speech model can still send its transcript to a cloud text provider for cleanup. If you want the entire workflow to stay on your computer, use a local text endpoint as well. See Privacy & offline.

Teach spelling and style#

Use Learned rules to capture spelling or style preferences. Edit the cleanup prompt for general instructions, then test it on representative speech.

Keep instructions concrete: preferred spellings, punctuation, or a specific output structure. Review names, numbers, and commitments in the result.

Create a cleanup profile#

Support ticket and Email are editable starter profiles.

  1. In Quick Record, check AI cleanup to show Cleanup profile, then choose Manage…. You can also use Settings → Profiles.
  2. Choose a starter or select New profile. Give it a name and instructions for the structure, tone, and details you want.
  3. Optionally include learned rules and assign a dedicated shortcut.
  4. Select Save profile, choose it in Quick Record, and start recording.

Profile instructions replace the standard cleanup prompt. The profile's format takes priority over conflicting formatting rules, and profiles use the text model configured in AI cleanup.

Use profile shortcuts#

Profile shortcuts always toggle recording. Press once to start and again to stop. The standard recording shortcut keeps its normal toggle or push-and-hold behavior.

Profiles always run cleanup, even if it is off for standard dictation. Uploads and meetings keep their own settings. Editing a profile does not change a recording already in progress.

Recover from a cleanup failure#

If cleanup is unavailable or fails, the app keeps the raw transcript and reports the formatting failure. Check the provider, endpoint, model, credential, and network connection before trying again.

History records the profile name and retains the raw transcript when cleanup changes it. Meeting intelligence uses separate settings; see Meeting mode.
